has your future been told?
A downloadable game for Windows and macOS
This game was made by Alexander Rudenshiold and I for the graduate In4matx seminar Identity, Magic, and Social Change Through Play taught by Prof. Theresa Jean Tanenbaum at UCI.
We were inspired by the Korean fortune telling custom doljabi (돌잡이), where children choose items off a table at their first birthday celebration in order to determine their future. In the past, because many children in Korean used to die before the first birthdays, the doljabi was a way to visualize a child's future, and believe that they would go on to live a blessed and prosperous life.
Our goal was to produce a game that allowed for this ritual to take place, and encourage players to reflect on the path they have taken in life, considering not just what they have already done, but what they will go onto do.
